i’ve wanted to go for awhile. like a really long time (not gonna throw around phrases containing double-digit year-units anymore). so i’m finally going this week. called it, stamped it, mailed it, no eraseies.
a city that, in my high school brain, was defined as parade-filled hijinx central thanks to ferris bueller’s day off,
or as the epitome-of-mid-west-badass-early-melodic-indie-rock (though we called it ‘alternative’ back then, kids) a la veruca salt, liz phair, pumpkins (holla, amanda) & urge overkill, etc.
chi-town has now morphed into more layered (though not more sophisticated…) pop cultural references (hello high fidelity, kayne, kid sister, the sea & cake, pitchfork) & fittingly, it’s now lucky to be the new residence of the whitney hall’s pop-cult maven (books, records, films — these things matter. call me shallow but it’s the damn truth.), sam, while she’s hitting the law school books.
will be brutal gearing up to escape for thursday, especially after losing so much time to this hellish cold virus, but it’s well worth it. sia tix are in the mail for her show at park west, still leaves a coupla nights free for any experienced chicago traveler’s suggestions.
peace
