Well I don’t think it’s strange, I don’t think it’s insane, It turns the world around

Sadly missed Elvis Perkins‘ show last night…was wiped after late nights, catching up on 2 days off, then some half-hearted gym time…especially sad because he was one of the highlights of last year’s sxsw fest…despite the rowdy cold war kids fans in the audience at the packed Music Hall…So I’ve unfairly held a grudge vs. the CWKs ever since (tho - it’s not the band I hate, it’s the fans, should apply…) so I was happy to uncover this redeeming gem (their cover of Tom Waits’ ‘i don’t wanna grow up’ elicited very different opinions from my mp3 sharin’ buds awhile back as i recall…) w/ Elvis, Dr. Dog & CWKs guesting on a KEXP session - This Mp3 session starts with a brilliant collobo on Dr. Dog’s new track ‘California’.

In other collobo news, I’m very excited to see the final outcome of this always creative, mind-expanding & fruitful partnership:

Off to some computer triage for family friends, then *maybe* a pr thingie…maybe? we shall see…

No matter who i hang out with, I can hear the clack clunk; of the chains that pull the cars up, the roller coaster mountain top so high

A gray day, perfect for geeking out guilt-free. I’m triple (quadruple if you count that too-good-to-be-true Bruce Peninsula w/ the Acorn & Laura Barrett show that I will probably not have any chance of making in time..aie?!) booked for tonight, which makes last night’s foul ups a bit of a relief (& the Sondre Lerche concert’s cancellation - hopefully postponed! - a blessing in disguise, too)…

Got back to what now looks like an Ikea refugee camp at a reasonable hour, crashed, caught up with far-away-friends & had some sweatpants q.t. Packing is 98% done, feeling completely wiped after an action-packed week of events, shows & daytime appts, so there’s loads of maintenance work on the errands/online front…I’ve been unabashedly pillaging rcrdlbl tracks whenever I get a moment since it launched last week - can’t stop listening to the jose gonzales’ guest appearance on the junip track ‘chickens.’ Going through a mellower listening phase lately (including the aforementioned Sarah Burton’s tracks, who knew she’d be backed by a bunch of the Bebop Cowboys? what a pleasant surprise!), maybe to counterbalance the madness…gathered up all the covers/fav tracks to .zip’off to friends, in the hopes that it will - by osmosis - synthesize all the information for the ‘07 Waub list before year’s end…Thinking that I could stay on top of the hype machine was another massive joke, will be unsubscribing from that bad boy before day’s end to alleviate unread-guilt.

So the move has pretty much taken over my life (& my subconscious, been having loads of weird dreams about moving into spaces that are hybrid mashups of places I saw & didn’t like…bizarro scenes of opening up closet/cupboard doors & peeking to neighbour’s apartments…too many late nights & an archive of bjork videos floating around the id, I guess) - will be off work Monday/Tuesday, but Monday’s ‘actionable items’ keep getting pushed further & further back into the day - Could’ve sworn I was using a ‘best teams approach’ to ‘manage my expectations,’ but haven’t been able to ‘touch base’ with ‘key stakeholders’ to secure a concrete plan ‘moving forward.’ There - that buzzword bouillabaisse makes up for missing two days work.

On that snarky note…I am looking forward to end of day Tuesday, being totally unpacked & cooking again - appreciate the first coupla guinea pigs volunteering to pop over before I really get my bearings in the new space, I promise no wild forays into new recipe land until I’ve mastered the new digs…

…gambled our mistakes, didn’t know what could come after. Threw away the cards. Who thinks it could matter?

Join us tonight at Supermarket in Kensington for friend-of-a-friend Sarah Burton’s CD Release Party. ‘Love is for Pussies’ is available through her site/Indiepool if you can’t make it out….You can also stream 3 tracks form the new record….She’s got a ‘Barcelona’ song a la Rufus, I’m warming up to her already…

…& Sam’s back (albeit for too short a visit…) - hurrah!

…it’s really not my habit to intrude; Furthermore, I hope my meaning won’t be lost or misconstrued

So late to link - but had to show this video some much deserved love! Mark’s video has been up on his site for over 10 days…belated congrats!

Best quote: “Car on car violence has reached an all-time high in Canada!” (& couldn’t resist posting this Mp3 - a Paul Simon cover by Jens Lenkman in honour of the lame newscaster newscaster’s second runner up quote)

peace (& come to CaseCamp!)

Imagining a blue plaque above the place I first ever touched a girl’s chest, but hold on, you’ve got to wait for the best

Hokay. So I’m going to continue this thread wherein I take cues from the blogging gods & go with the collective flow & disengage from FeisuBukku for….awhile.

Inspired by a lot of things - mostly the fact that iPhone’d Timo just quit Twitter & finding out from Roberto that Mike D is anti-2.0 entirely - pshaw - then I can totally quit FB. Yeah right.

First step - admitting you have a problem…next step - I’ve disabled that nifty Firefox toolbar…You know, the one that’s more distracting than a CNN ticker (& no, I still don’t have cable & have no intention of getting a TV at the new place, but I admit to indulging at the gym…John (JD!) Roberts is my new Matt Lauer & running companion, all those yummy Much memories suit the iPod’s Parachute Club singles…). Third Step (TBD) - Calling in the tech dudes to block it on BB (let’s not get too enthusiastic about the rash soc media diet, right? Go back to chunking 100s of CDs - curious about classmates ed.)

A bud joked about rapid response time today…& it was merited…a touch hypocritical as I peruse scheds for Social Media conferences & eagerly anticipate CaseCamp…

Hope to see some familiar faces tomorrow night - I’ll be all relaxed and suffering from forehead wrinkle after my bodyclinic time…

Too poifect post shuffle soundtrack: the afore-referenced tune + ‘Another Time’ from ‘ATX nostalgia mix’ & Meat Puppets‘ version of ‘What to Do’….

Check out this video….

then this video

& tell me what to do on the night of the 30th.
& read this.

When she turned blue, all the angels screamed; They didn’t know, they couldn’t make the scene

A new genre has to be added to last post’s mix…The binary code of life as communicated by boys through sports analogies. Last night’s debacle, which topped off a wild week in (of all places?!) Caledon, tied things up neatly - bookends of ball-related life lessons (get your mind out of the gutter). Sigh. Special thanks for those words of wisdom, gentlemen. I am still laughing/processing. Big contingent headed out for the parade today, but not feeling the xma$ spirit quite yet…need to recover from the week away, one looong harried night & a busy, busy week ahead - charity fundraisers, casecamp, housewarmings, Dakota nights, hockey games, & of course, the never-ending quest for boxes.

If I’m inserting my coin I’m doing just fine. And the things in my head start hurtin’ my mind.

Advice. I am a magnet for the stuff. It's either because I have a
youngish look/vibe or a side effect of the other unexplainable
TMI-attracting factors within that I've blogged about before. Googley
eyes? Attentive/active listener? Too eager to stop working?

Whatever it is, there's a fine blessing vs. curse balance that needs
to be struck, which I am certainly not achieving of late.

Some humbly advise the expert guidance of others. I've had everything
from astrological charts to shrink's emails to guard dog litigators
offered up this round. It's flattering and terrifying to think that
your not-so-unique-afterall-situation calls for test-driven pros.

Being cheap, stubborn and busy has left many elements of this advice
genre fall by the wayside, though.

Then there's the testimonial-style advice-doler-outer. This is can
best be represented Venn-diagram-style overlapping with all the TMI's
I've loved before. These peeps have some pretty heavy stuff yet to be
resolved and are all too happy to make (sometimes tenuous) links
between your sitch and theirs. They revel in revealing. Often they
glean a few peripheral deets through the grapevine and cobble together
a theory that has
served them well in years past. Thanks but no thanks.

Thankfully there are the superstars of the advice giving world.
Friends who probably don't offer up parables at all - they just
listen, laugh and offer to help you move. They lead by example and,
when asked, explain the difference (again) between variable and fixed
rates and the best place to rent weird dvds on the east side. They
MySpace you Mae West quotes, email you live the National sets or lend
you a futon (in their apartment…to sleep on….indefinitely). I hope
to stop being a trite 'truism' deliverer and evolve into one of these
types veru, very soon.

Christina's post yesterday made me write this…hope I didn't pull a
TMI of my own…

Back in the city Saturday aft…ElMo+GoingSteady+DerbyNight??

It ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe, That light I never knowed

Packing really sucks. I can’t think of anything more depressing than sifting through all of the crap I’ve accumulated by default and chunking a good 30%…Tokyo lifestyle time is just around the corner and the anti-swag policy will have to be enforced ruthlessly…with south-by 4 mos away, I’ll at least have some practice time under my belt…

Last night’s Caribou gig was completely different than what I’d expected. Watching Dan go head to head drumming centre stage was a huge highlight. Such a nice symmetry to the show, a unity in the psychedelic projections (v. different than the usual video loops, tres trippy and hypnotizing…not quite Banana Split trippy, but up there…), the band’s ability to play completely in sync w/ the backing tracks & the set progression. The vocal parts were drowned out, like the albums’ mix, but Andy chimed in every now & then with his gorgeous upper range, which was a nice surprise.

Openers Born Ruffians were worth the price of admission alone…they get tighter and hoe-down/funky/syncopated/goodness-ier every time I see’em. The new Hummingbird track sounds urgent’n'vibrant live (Amanda knows about my soft spot for this bird…someday I’ll go back…maybe) and I can’t wait for the full length to come out in February….Too late for the Waubber’s year-end list-off, but maybe I can squeeze in the EP as a contenda.

Can’t write much more as i am living the neverending errand story part II. Vital info before signing off…A lil’ birdie told me that despite not being on the list of artists for tonight’s wavelength lineup, Laura Barrett will indeed be joining the Two Koreas & the Bicycles ce soir…

he may be mellow, he may be kind, treat you good all the time….

One. Week. Away. Thanks again Robyn, it’s been a hectic frazzly coupla months - this is the perfect time to cash in a belated b-day present.
