Post script..

Inneresting tool on the indie911 site that I'm finally test driving.
Indie911 is a kickass resource for musicians so if you haven't already
checked out the website - do it now. They've got an intriguing
interface music juke box thingie that I've just bombarded with Mp3s +
one the bad boy finishes uploading my mix…should be adaptable to the
blog + my MySpace page…no news yet on Facebook portability, tho I'm
sure the Indie911 coding elves are all over it like a mobile phone
convos on NSA's surveillance logs….
Anywhoo, I'll probably throw up a demo with a playlist over the weekend.

We will not be undersold…

Last night's Cons show was the good times expected - a very cool
contingent of old + new friends coalesced to enjoy the folktified
greatness (far greater than last time I saw'em) of headliners + Jon
Rae + the River….wild weird encounter with emo-tastic sonambulistic
broken Happy Meal toy/moron intermissioned the Constantines set +
spiced things up nice enough…long-ass + somewhat entertaining story
that ended up eclipsing the actual show itself. Circle of life + all
that crap.

no one’s expecting such a law…on your long way from home..all of the thoughts you had were not your own

Besides not-sucking, what do Pearl Jam, Ted Leo, Calexico, Kathleen Hanna (honourary member of lifetime not-sucking hall of fame, FYI), The Donnas & Rogue Wave have in common?

They’re kicking ass & taking names…with some odd allies (incl. The Christian Coalition of America – yikes)…to fight for net neutrality – called Save the Internet - through the brilliant NPO – the Future of Music Coalition (any NPO that calls a spade a spade – or in their case the RIAA a special interest group w/ a serious conflict of interest when it comes to copyright/compensation discussions).

Check this out – it’s worth your time & a bit of low-energy fretting, especially if you enjoy indulging too-good-to-be-untrue-conspiracy-theories about technology being usurped by corporate behemoths.

p.s. Do go out & buy Sunderland England’s Field Music Tones of Town LP. Oh so very confectionary sweet, charming harmonies, Beatlesque guitar fills, not overly-indulgent orchestration…the list goes on. Perfect album length, too - under 32 minutes…like the LPs from the good ol’no filler days

When you got Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; Oh, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

It’s a gosh dern shame that the Globe doesn’t post on the web the entirety of (what little) their published music content…The music ’section’ of today’s Review section heaps praise on the loverly Emily Weedon & Delta in the singles section.

Instead of reading, which is so web 1.0 - why not check out their MySpace page & LISTEN to streaming tunes here.

Good ol’ Frank from Chromewaves featured them back when here, too…the pics are real purty.

The homepage sez that April 11th is a big day fer Delta, so heads up on the new EP release party, at Delta’s haunt, The Cameron House….

To work…

Goodbye arizona, so long san antonia, legs spread wide now here we go…

Past two Toronto shows have been plagued by hipster d.b.s that are
preoccuped with seeing + being seen - which includes talking LOUDLY
about nonsense or/and snapping ridiculous faceshots for their pet
project Facebook pages - instead of paying any atttention to the
performer. Oh what a world my parents gave me.

Opener ghosthands suffered the most, unfortunately. His guitar
playing + earnest lyrics were beautiful….fans of bright eyes, willy
mason + ben lee will enjoy…

Castanets were better in drowning out the mob of morons with their
dissonant atmospheric gauzy wall of alt-twang-folk sound. Some of
the swampier art-folk interludes alost start sounding like dub…+
some of the jauntier vocal-hinged pieces were almost like calexico
songs…

All in all great athsmatic kitty night..too bad shapes + sizes bowed out…

Field music

@ el mo tonight with menomena - join us!!!

Tested'em out at sxsw + they're great!!!

i feel like a replay these days, woke up one morning to find i was a cliche

So luck to have run into these guys at the Nellie McKay gig - didn’t look like the typical NM fans - but they staked out the kickass perch before we did, so I figured they were there for some other hip hop act afterwards….They were super gracious & let my short ass move in front, we started chatting about the Brooklyn music scene…& they presented a CD w/ a bunch of these artists. Go here & check’em out, it’s a great sampler, dunno how current the web content is…

Wish they’d get a showcase @ NXNE….hint, hint…

Will be locked in a room for 4+hours today, so think of me as you walk free this afternoon….

Hold me closer Tony Danza…

So friggin’ sorry I was too lazy’n'tired’n'riskaverse to leave the TeamLove showcase on Saturday to catch Girl Talk…& couldn’t resist perpetuating the Spears vid that’s circulating everywhere….

So slip inside this funky house, Dishes in the sink, The TV’s in repair; Don’t look at the floor, Don’t go up the stairs

So I haven’t had much time to recap events, put forward the TSN Turning Points (tho seeing Buck 65 in concert 2 times & meeting him at Flatstock stands out…)of the trip & so on & so forth….because I’m aborn-again worker bee, immersing masself in clients’n'files’n'meetings - oh my. I just saw that Pigeon John is in TO tomorrow night @ El Mo - GROAN. very tempting to relapse’n'fall off the wagon back into the gigging lifestyle….

All in all - it was an amazing experience. Last SXSW I was working full-time, doing the event planning, volunteer coordinating thing, packing & saying goodbyes after a whirlwind stay in the Live Music Capital…

Being at the conference/fest & not working was incredibly different. Tho I couldn’t resist firing off a coupla e-mails & searching for some client-stuff…I did as well as I could to use the BB for nefarious-nerdy purposes only.

Been getting a ton of awesome feedback on the pics. if I wasn’t a lazy bum, I’d flip the Flickr photos to Facebook - but I’m not that ambitious & leery of the insane growth of the FB family…

The photo link is on that flashy badge thingie along the side or riiiiight here.

Also, some super brief snippets from shows can be found hereish.

Anywhoo, hope everything went swimmingly without me. Comforting to see that the centre of the universe is fully functioning and as uptight as ever! Keep on shoegazin’, TO’ians & lemme know if Sebadoh is a go.

Didn’t mean for that to rhyme. Really.

p.s. in other music nerd news, check out this story & wonder out loud if it’s another consumer hoseing in the waiting….Who knew that what web 2.0 was missing was ’service charges’???
