You’ve never learned to read or write, There’s no books upon your shelf; And your pleasure know no limits, Your voice is like a meadow lark’s

Ah the inter-web. Unsolicited penis-enlargement-offers & the ubiquitous mass survey sample. What better way to spend your Saturday a.m. than ranting on your weekly disappointment w/ the nation’s newspaper. At least TorStar didn’t contact me, it would’ve been a bit harsher after the horrid barrage of minimum wage blather for the past 2 weeks:

“The Friday 7 section is a disaster. I am absolutely loathe to bring it along on my morning commute - Either kill the TV listings or re-launch the magazine - this is a terrible, awkward compromise. I adore some of the Style/Fashion/Review columnists - MacLaren, Doyle et. al - but I have no idea why Von Hahn & Eckler still have gainful assignments/employment. It’s terribly annoying to see a column called ‘blogger’ when it is not at all like a blog. I hope that the launch of the new lifestyle section in the spring brings some structure/sense to the mishmash of Toronto/Style/Review/Focus sections on the weekend. The Globe - for all of its claims to be the nation’s newspaper - is getting its lunch eaten by better designed, hipper, smarter and savvier columnists, layouts, etc of the Post. It pains me to say, but I have seriously been considering a switch to a Post subscription - I love their columnists, layout, better daily sports section (for my partner…), fashion, etc. I think that it’s time to step back & review what the Globe hopes to accomplish - if you want to be the boomer health newsletter for the 21st century - then certainly forge ahead w/ the status quo. 20-somethings are not a hopeless lot for subscriptions - both on-line & in-print - so please don’t give up on us entirely. If you hire some more intelligent and insightful young writers (& the terrible Herouxville/Quebec coverage - overtly patronizing and completely unconnected to what’s really going on in Quebec - please let Gagnon retire with a shred of matronly dignity left & hire someone, anyone with some sense of the REAL QUE) - then we will eventually wise up & subscribe. Until that day comes - keep watching the numbers decline. I’d strongly suggest that you look to the NYTimes & how they built a reputable brand, amazing on-line archive/news source & mimic it as best you can. “

Grouchier than usual? I really need to start drinking coffee again. This Resolution garbage is killing me - at least I’m not TA’ing during this dry spell & the poor undergraduates of Cartoon University aren’t suffering - if I’m this hard on a newspaper, I can’t imagine how I’d brutalize HIS CDN 101 kids…..

Peace
meegs

p.s. Bebop Cowboys on the Danforth tonight…..Midlake Monday….please do come to either/both.
