Who needs thinking, When the drinks are on the house?; Evaporating, All the time I was in doubt

To continue the theme of the SXSW Japan Night obsession, check out this new article from Slate about top-secret iTunes re-jigs that can open a whole new world of amazing songs.

Overall, last night’s Apostle of Hustle’s first gig of their residency at the Rivoli was good-ish…Don’t get me wrong, openers Besnard Lakes were brilliant & well worth the price of admission - I love those guys more & more & more. But to be brutally honest, I was pretty disappointed w/ AoH. I’ve seen’em 4-5 times before & they seemed less dynamic this time round. It’s not entirely the band’s fault - the Riv’s sound was unbalanced & off-kilter & Andrew’s voice was mushed up & drowned out…Adding insult to injury, they played a (n admittedly) terrible cover of Sarah Harmer’s ‘Coffee Stain’ which dragged down the 1st set. Overall - I guess it’d merit a 7.2.

The streak of scoring coveted tickets for sold-out events officially ended last night, too. With an admirable hat-trick (Sketchersons , Apostle of Hustle & Friends in Bellwoods…), but now karma is biting me in the calendar & I can’t track down Camera Obscura or M. Ward tickets to save my social life….boo-urns.

Anywhoo, it might be for the best to check out some less cramped & hyped shows in the next week or so….If y’all have any suggestions, you know where to find me (@ Thunderbirds are Now!’s Lee’s show on Sunday)

Peace
meegs
