My ear’s aren’t hearing things the same way; My friends are getting bolder, And there’s an aching in my shoulder; I don’t know what to do

You know those nights where you have to fight to stay awake….where you’re on the verge of being swallowed into your couch & immersing yourself in blah summer reruns or overspun DVDs? I fought the slovenly siren call - even after a massive & delicious Portuguese meal with family & friends…

Important Aside: If you haven’t yet explored the patio of Bairrada Churrasqueira @ 1000 College - Go Right Now - You will regret not going all next fall & winter…Make hay while the sun shines people! Reserve a spot outside while the CNE Carnies are still touring around North America & the sun isn’t setting at 6pm…

…Anyway, we cabbed it down to the Rivoli for Mike Evin’s radio-style show with an incredible set by David Celia. Wow. Just days before the gig, a bud from ATX tipped me off to the Canuck singer due to his Neil Hannon/Divine Comedy connections/recommendations…I was not disappointed (tho with Mike Evin on the bill & cover being $7, there was no risk of being shortchanged…)..The Celia set (delayed due to the shindig getting off the ground far later than listed - boo-urns for a later than expected late night) beautiful harmonies, great upbeat bluegrass-style numbers & amazing musicianship from Celia on his electric guitar. Not to be missed is his upcoming gig @ the CBC’s Glenn Gould Theatre Studio on Tuesday, September 12th that’ll mark the ‘official’ CD release date.

I’ve been obsessing over the Pipettes’ “We are the Pipettes” & the D’Urberville’s EP to the point of exhaustion - any other suggestions (besides the usual Apples in Stereo, B&S, STOOL, Tapes’n'Tapes, Sleepy Jackson, Little Man Tate, Detroit Cobras, Islands, et al) for a power-pop hungry late-summer listening binge?

Looking forward to your suggestions - bring on the .zip files & recommended purchases…..

Peace
Meegs
