Never thought I could be any sicker than I already am of hockey…but I am now officially sicker of soccer. Damn the karmic price I pay for having sweet Portuguese chicken joints & the West End Y…the other side of the coin is hooliganery & car horns & whistles & rubbish & incessant street partying….I had no clue the scope of this soccer tournament thingie…but this is insane…While walking with the family from Parkdale I couldn’t believe how bonkers the Dundas & College strips were…I think that these World Cup fans could definitely give Oilers rioters a run for their money…
On the upside, while I’m stowed away inside - I can work on such ambitious MacGyver-level home reno projects like the SkyLightCoverUpper©. 8 thumbtacks, 20ish staples & a swath of unbleached cotton later - I have an almost fully functioning protective shield from the brutal sun rays…until it collapses in a bundle in a matter of minutes.
Smaller-scale pet projects are going much better - I scored some great fabric from peach berserk yesterday & have been puttering away on Nano & camera coozies….Need to re-load my Nano ASAP with Tim Easton & La Rocca tracks - two standout acts from last night’s lineup at Healey’s.
La Rocca played their first Canadian gig with massive panache. Even in Healey’s retro 70s basement atmosphere, these Dublin dudes can pull off the Brit-rock epic staduium sound - at times ripping off Coldplay ballad riffs blatantly - They can also whip out some brilliant banter with their Supergrass-happy-melodies & Pulp-witty-lyrics…(They’re playing London, ON tomorrow @ Call the Office - definitely worth checking out…)
Tim Easton’s set reminded me of Tucker’s stuff - amazing guitar work, finger picking & gut wrenching chords with thoughtful & rebellious bastardly lyrics. I wasn’t surprised to see that Easton’s 1st CD was put out on New West - ATX’s solid label that houses Drive-By Truckers & a ton of other roots-rock & alt-country artists. Easton’s newer CD is rockier & less twangy, it should be in indie record stores with La Rocca & Beautiful Unknown CDs since they were on the bill of a CDN distribution co…
Anywhoo, this is my second last week at work & I can’t believe how fast this term has passed. Sheesh. Let’s hope that whatever world of work I explore..it’ll be this varied & pass this quickly…
Peace
Meegs

Ya know, I gave it ye olde college try, but could not confirm that they were indeed playing call the office. Cuz the listings on the website were for a differenct band, and I couldn’t get a real live person on the phone. Balls, I say.
I miss Toronto. *sad*
Ahh Boo! I thought that they were going there for sure b/c of their website…but that sucks. Sorry for the poor quality of listings in L-town! What up with that?
