Glazed, dirty steps, repeat my own & reflect my thoughts; Cold & uninviting, partially naked; Except for toffee wrapers & this morning’s paper

I am getting primed for some NXNE action this weekend. I’ve been pinging e-mails back & fro with a network of concert goers & hopefully we can synchronize our schedules to see some gigs together.

Tonight’s event wasn’t the rip roaring roast-fest that I expected. Coulda predicted that the Hart House tech specs would be a trainwreck, but I figured that these logistics’d be mastered by a media-savvy organizing team. Anywhoo, the politico-vids & speeches were good - for the 20% of people who could hear’em….& Rob & I got a kick out of meeting two dudes that went to Queen’s with Ibey, tho - that was a highlight besides the usual peanut gallery chatter with the regular cynics.

Anywhoo, in the spirit of my lame ice-breaking CPSA joke - that when in TX I’d take a break from working on music to talk politics & now I take a break from working on politics to talk music - which isn’t really much of a joke but more of a quirky observation….I’d share some of my jokes herein but according to a colleague, my humour is raunchy beyond the low standards of political staffers…Here’s some NXNE highlights to catch:

JR’s picks - Long-term parking at the Silver Dollar Friday for: From Fiction, Hot Springs, The Besnard Lakes, Hilotrons and Anagram.

& I concur. Silver Dollar is good times, nice staff, reasonable $$, good venue for sightlines & a great lineup. Anagram’s drummer is SICK & cannot be missed & I haven’t seen From Fiction in about 2 years…so I’m due for a booster shot of their intense noise-rock…& The HiLoTrons were spot-on @ their CD Release party this winter…was lucky enough to catch’em while we were in Ottawa for work.

Satuday’s a bit tougher: I’m poopooing The Drake for its too cramped basement digs…I’m veto’ing The Horseshoe for the obnoxious Jully Black factor & the tiring jam-rambling of Old Soul….& endorsing proprosition Healey’s: Paper Moon, Beautiful unknown, Tim Easton, La Rocca, Faces on Film.

This site is going bonkers so I’ll sign off for now. Must get more London gig feedback from my overseas brothers & sisters! Let me know if there are any domestic UK acts that need to be checked out before NME crashes the party & ruins it for all of us…Or i could just shell out for a Time Out & figure this out by masself…

Peace
Meegs
